This combination drug works synergistically to lower blood pressure. Olmesartan blocks the effects of angiotensin II, a hormone that narrows blood vessels. Cilnidipine relaxes blood vessels by blocking calcium entry into muscle cells. Chlorthalidone increases urine output, reducing blood volume and thus blood pressure. The combined effect provides a more effective blood pressure reduction than any single agent alone.
