A sulfonylurea drug that stimulates the pancreas to release more insulin.
A biguanide drug that improves insulin sensitivity and reduces glucose production by the liver.
Type 2 diabetes mellitus, especially in patients who have not achieved adequate glycemic control with metformin alone.
Treatment of hyperglycemia in adults with type 2 diabetes when diet and exercise are insufficient.
Glimepiride enhances insulin secretion from the pancreas, while metformin improves insulin sensitivity and decreases hepatic glucose production. The combination provides a synergistic effect in lowering blood glucose levels.
Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Dosage should be determined by a physician based on individual patient needs and response.
Typically started at a low dose and gradually increased as tolerated.
Should be taken with food to minimize gastrointestinal side effects.
Gastrointestinal upset: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain (more common with metformin).
Lactic acidosis (rare but serious with metformin): Characterized by muscle pain, weakness, fatigue, and shortness of breath.
Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar): Symptoms include sweating, tremor, palpitations, dizziness, confusion.
Weight gain
Allergic reactions: Rash, itching, swelling.
Alcohol consumption can increase the risk of hypoglycemia and lactic acidosis. Limit alcohol intake.
Hypoglycemia can impair cognitive function and reaction time. Avoid driving or operating machinery if experiencing hypoglycemic symptoms.
Generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Consult a doctor immediately if pregnancy occurs.
Not indicated for use in children.
Metformin is contraindicated in patients with severe kidney disease due to the risk of lactic acidosis.
Caution is advised in patients with liver disease. Regular monitoring of liver function may be necessary.
